There’s a cool post on the Tor.com blog showing all of my sketches from Seanan McGuire’s Wayward Children series. I absolutely love the series, and so every time I get an assignment to illustrate one of the books, I go a little crazy and give AD Irene Gallo many *many* prelim sketches. Only 3 sketches are taken to final for each book, but the blog post gathers together all the previously unseen sketches, so you can see the ones that didn’t make the cut.
I’m excited to announce that I recently finished illustrating a picture book!
The book is called ‘Tintinnabula’, it’s written by Margo Lanagan, and will be published in Australia in October by Little Hare Books.
Here is a sneak peak of an advance copy I recently received:
There’s a small interview with me in the April issue of Locus Magazine. You can also read it online here. They did a feature on legendary illustrator Kinuko Craft, and included some mini-interviews with other illustrators as well. I am thrilled to be included alongside Jeffrey Alan Love and Paul Lewin.
My piece ‘Tom, Thom’ has been nominated for a Chesley Award this year, in the Interior Illustration category! The piece was created for a Tor.com short story, and is one of my favourite pieces from last year.
The calibre of work nominated is truly amazing, and I’m super honoured to be included. A list of all the gorgeous work nominated can be found here.
Here’s something different – I recently created a silk screen poster for Black Dragon Press. They are producing a series of posters based on classical ballet, and this is the first one, inspired by Swan Lake. The most exciting (and most fun to work on) part is that the illustration is reversible! With Odette on one side, and Odile and Von Rothbart on the other.
I never thought my style would work well as a screen print, but I’m absolutely delighted with the result! Kudos to the folks at White Duck Editions who did the separations, and AD Nicolas Delort who patiently guided me through the entire process.
The poster will be released on Friday, and you can find all the details here: www.blackdragonpress.co.uk
